The Divine Frenzy
Drawing and printmaking are perfect outlets for emotional/
subconscious release. Charcoal, conte and monoprints are
what I consider “instant gratification media,” as they allow
for spontaneous mark making yet almost instantly create
the strong contrast in values that define a dramatic composition.

When I make a monoprint, I use the reductive process, inking the
entire plate, then randomly pulling out the lights. I rotate the plate
in all directions and watch for the mysterious imagery to emerge,
as it usually does, as if by magic. I emphasize the imagery that
reveals itself to me, recognizing this process as “divine frenzy”,
artwork that is led by the spirit.

Some of the prints represented herein are intaglio etchings
or linocuts, which are more calculated and involve much
longer technical processes. These embody a more
cognitive approach to composition.
