Eva’s sculpture portfolio includes high relief, bas-relief and sculpture
in the round for decorative and architectural purposes. She specializes
in classical reproductions (that have included reproductions of Biltmore
Estate statuary), as well as animal and human portraiture by
commission. Her original style merges ancient with contemporary,
featuring themes ranging from mythical to mystical.
The process: When the idea is conceived, an armature is built, usually
of wood and found objects, which roughly defines the basic form of the
piece. Oil based clay and wax are then melted down and blended
together into a hot soupy mixture. As the clay/wax cools it gradually
becomes firmer and more workable. The form is built up by spreading
the warm gooey mixture over the armature, making it somewhat larger
than its intended final outcome. The intentional over sizing is to
accommodate for the next step, the subtractive process, or carving.
this is done when the clay/wax becomes cool and hard. More wax in the
mixture creates greater resistance. When the original piece is finished,
it is molded, cast in stone (unless otherwise specified by patron), hand
finished and signed by Eva.
